London is one of the great cities of the world, and offers popular tourist attractions such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. It’s also always been a city that has been happy to offer tourists more macabre attractions, such as the Chamber of Horrors, as well various grisly exhibits at the Tower of London.

Another place in London that will fascinate those interested in the macabre is The London Dungeon. Here, Queen Anne Boleyn’s final moments are recreated as she was beheaded on the orders of King Henry VIII.

The Dungeon also reveals some of the particularly gruesome methods of torture used in England centuries ago, when torture alone would often have been enough to kill an unfortunate individual. Different methods of execution are also part of the Dungeon’s attractions.

Probably London’s most famous murderer, Jack the Ripper, is also featured at the Dungeon, and he is presented in such a way that his vile crimes leave a vivid impression. Keeping him company is notorious 19th Century murderer, multiple child killer Mary Ann Cotton, together with dozens more names of British criminal history. But most famous of them all is Guy Fawkes, who deserves his place in the Dungeon as much for his grim end, as for planning the Gunpowder Plot.

As well as famous crimes, tragedies that have blighted London are remembered at the Dungeon, notably one of the darkest periods in London’s history – the mid-1660s. London was firstly hit by the Great Plague, and then the Great Fire, which led much of the centre of the capital having to be rebuilt.
